The current strategy aims to reduce the cost and complexity of smart manufacturing deployment for SMMs through the integration of consumer-grade electronics and a new AI development approach. The proposed machine control unit, which was AI-assisted Machine Supervision, provides SMMs with two main subsystems: direct machine monitoring and human-machine interaction monitoring. Through the inexpensive AI accelerator solution of the vision processing unit, the AIMS system was tested and verified with a case study in 3D printing.
