Medaka embryos as a model for metabolism of anabolic steroids

We looked at whether Oryzias latipes embryos might be an alternative, non-animal test model to study human-like metabolism in the present research. We exposed medaka embryos at the morula stage to the anabolic steroid metandienone for a period of 2 to 8 days in the present study. We analyzed the embryos' developmental status according to the fish embryo toxicity test. The exposition to 50 u00b5M metandienone was discovered by developmental malformations, but a significant rise in the heart beat was also present in those people exposed to the lower dose for 8 days.
