Acoustic tweezers are dexterous devices used to manipulate or investigate single cells with high accuracy. Sound waves, which have been successfully used for decades in diagnostic ultrasound imaging, are specifically designed for acoustic tweezers to be gentle with single cells, preserving cell viability and proliferation after manipulation. The acoustic tweezers' preferred features include small footprints, simple layouts, noninvasive and contactless procedures, and a label-free environment. Small footprints, simple designs, simple shapes, noninvasive and contactless operation, and a label-free nature are all typical of acoustic tweezers' ability to manipulate single cells for scientific and medical applications. Numerous single-cell experiments can be performed with the flexibility of acoustic tweezers, which has resulted in a variety of applications. We summarize the main working principles of acoustic tweezers and discuss their use in single-cell studies herein.
