Ultra-high-resolution assessment of lesion extension after cryoballoon ablation for pulmonary vein isolation

Laser ablation molecular isotopic spectroscopy: A novel tool to characterise the distribution of 13C and 12C on graphite after 13CH4 tracer injection in Wendelstein 7-X

In a series of identical hydrogen plasmas with injection of 13C isotopically labelled methane, the Wendelstein 7-X operation with inertially cooled graphite Test Divertor Unit was finalised. Using Laser Ablation Molecular Isotop Spectroscopy, the TDU was subsequently removed from the vessel, and some of the deleted TDU elements were examined for their 13C distribution in deposited layers on the surface. This report reveals the ability of LAMIS to determine the carbon deposition pattern on Plasma-Facing Components on two of the deleted TDU elements on two of the separated TDU elements. In a collinear double-pulse configuration for LAMIS, Ultra-short laser pulses of a Nd:YAG laser pulses of a Nd:YAG laser pulses were used. The first pulse created a laser-induced plasma on the surface, and 50 ns later, the second laser pulse was directed into this plasma to boost the signal.

Low-Loss Ultrasound Transmission Through Waveguide From Double Parabolic Reflectors (DPLUS) for Thermal Ablation

In this paper, we investigated DPLUS with a 1-M long and low-loss fused quartz thin waveguide working at the most suitable frequency of 2. 2 MHz, as well as the thermal effects on the tissue under various ultrasound exposure times. The measured temperature rises in the chicken breast tissue revealed satisfactory correlations with the simulation results, according to the transmitted axial vibration amplitude v_max at the thin waveguide tip of 1 m/s and the ultrasound exposure time of 20 s, 20 s, 20 s.

Conservative surgery with microwave ablation for recurrent bone tumor in the extremities: a single-center study

Abstract Background: It is still difficult to find a cure for recurrent bone tumors in the extremities. The purpose of this report was to determine the clinical value of microwave ablation in the treatment of recurrent bone tumors. Methods We are presenting 15 patients with recurrent bone tumors that have undergone microwave ablation during the last seven years. Percutaneous microwave ablation in one patient with osteoid osteoma and another with bone metastasis resulted in postoperative pain relief. Four patients with tumor metastasis and died, while three patients with tumors recovered, and the remaining 8 patients with the disease survived.

Q-value customized versus wavefront-optimized ablation in femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK for myopia and myopic astigmatism: a prospective contralateral comparative study

Abstract Summary Background Corneal refractive surgery for myopia results in an oblate shift with increased postoperative aberrations affecting the quality of vision in a blescent shift. The aim of this research was to compare changes in corneal asphericity, central, and mid-peripherical pachymetry between the Q-value customized and the wavefront-optimized ablation profiles. Eighty out of 40 eligible patients underwent a femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis for myopia and myopic astigmatism. Both patients' more myopic eye was included in the custom-Q ablation study group, while the other less myopic eye was included in the WFO control group. Corneal asphericity, central and mid-peripheral pachymetric changes, and the root mean square of corneal higher-order aberrations were measured 6 months after surgery. In the custom-Q group than in the WFO group, the mean preoperative refractive spherical equivalent was significantly more myopic than that in the WFO group. In the custom-Q and WFO groups, respectively, the mean Q-value increased from 0. 1 to 0. 6 percent and 0. 1 to 0. 6 in the custom-Q and WFO groups, respectively. The oblate shift in corneal asphericity was not significant different between both treatment groups. Conclusions Despite the increased amount of ablation, the smaller optical zone, and the resulting rise in postoperative corneal flattening in the custom-Q group, the custom-Q treatment profile with target asphericity and mid-peripheral pachymetry achieved comparable outcomes vs. the WFO profile in terms of postoperative corneal asphericity and mid-peripheral pachymetry achieved at the preoperative Q-value achieved comparable results vs.

Imaging and histological features of tumor biopsy sample predict aggressive intrasegmental recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after radiofrequency ablation

In an AIR-predictive study, we sought to determine radiological and/or histological characteristics of tumor biopsy predictive of AIR. Patient monitored by No-Touch multi-bipolar RFA for a first HCC with a perceptible tumor biopsy positive for diagnosis of HCC were retrospectively reviewed by researchers. In 21/212 patients, AIR was present in 21/212 patients and was regarded at a greater risk of death. Patients and macro-trabecular massive histological subtypes were found in 21% of the patients and macro-trabecular massive histological subtype, while in 12% of the patients were directly related to a higher risk of AIR.

Ablation of sphingosine kinase 2 suppresses fatty liver-associated hepatocellular carcinoma via downregulation of ceramide transfer protein

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is emerging as the fastest-growing HCC risk factor, contributing to an additional layer of difficulty in HCC prevention, with the increasing prevalence of metabolic disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. SphK2's inability resulted in the downregulation of ceramide transfer protein, which, in turn, reduced the ratio of pro-cancer sphingomyelin to anti-cancer ceramide. In conclusion, the new report reveals that SphK2 is a key lipid regulator in NAFLD-associated HCC, providing experimental evidence to back up clinical trials of SphK2 inhibitors as systemic therapies against HCC.
