In lowering seroma rates and other problems in abdominoplasties, two decades of research have demonstrated the benefits of quilting sutures/protrusion sutures. Despite this, PTS have not been widely used by plastic surgeons; besides this, PTS methods and preferences differ widely. Objectives of this study The aim of this survey is to determine the prevalence of PTS use, reasons for reluctance to use them, and a variety of techniques used by plastic surgeons in performing abdominoplasties worldwide. Methods An 13-question survey was sent worldwide by ISAPS to 3842 plastic surgeons globally. Only PTS training experience was found to be highly correlated with current usage. In comparison to 40% (2006)62% of trainees from other geographies, only 22% of North American trainees were exposed to PTS. Conclusions Overall, the majority of plastic surgeons now use PTS, with training experience being a significant predictor. Evidence III The journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article.
