Safety and efficacy of a feed additive consisting of endo‐1,4‐β‐xylanase produced by Bacillus subtilis LMG S‐27588 (Beltherm MP/ML) for laying hens, minor poultry species and all avian species (Puratos NV)

Adhering to a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific viewpoint on the security and efficacy of an endo‐1,4 β‐xylanase, produced by a genetically‐modified Bacillus subtilis stress, as a zootechnical additive for laying chickens, small poultry species and all avian varieties. No viable cells were spotted in the additive, however the data provided to sustain the lack of DNA in the additive was not adequate to end on the absence of recombinant DNA in the additive. In the current analysis, the FEEDAP Panel concluded that the additive is secure for all avian species at the advised level of 100 ADXU/kg feed. Similarly, the FEEDAP Panel concluded that Beltherm MP/ML is secure for the environment and the customer. In a previous opinion, the efficiency of the additive in poultry types for fattening was revealed.
