Association of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor with hepatic enzymes, AST/ALT ratio, and FIB-4 index in middle-aged and older women.

Substantial evidence points to a vital role in brain health. Therefore, we hypothesized that blood BDNF levels were correlated with liver function and fibrosis. After adjusting for age, we discovered that serum BDNF had a significant positive correlation with ALT and u03b3-glutamyltranspeptidase production, negative correlation with the FIB-4 index, and a trend of negative correlation with the AST/ALT ratio. These findings reveal links between serum BDNF and liver enzymes and hepatic fibrosis-related indices, which may explain liver-brain interactions.
