In northern midlatitudes, we investigate the effects of various complex refractive indices and particle mixing states on shortwave radiative forcing of stratospheric aerosols. Shortwave RF could vary by up to 100% change in shortwave RF with altered refractive index and mixing state. The selection of shortwave RF data, for several combinations of organic complex refractive index and mixing state, call for improved knowledge of chemical and transport processes that determine aerosol optical properties in the stratosphere.
