Bacterial Species Associated with Highly Allergenic Plant Pollen Yield a High Level of Endotoxins and Induce Chemokine and Cytokine Release from Human A549 Cells

Every year, sensitization to pollen allergens has been on the rise in Europe. Pollen is colonized by a variety of microorganisms, including endotoxin-producing bacteria that may cause pollen allergy as a plant microbiote. As a model of epithelial lung barrier, bacteria isolated from high allergenic and low allergenic plant pollen, as well as pollen itself with all microbial species were used to determine the pollen's effect. The bacterial endotoxins in the bacterial isolates from high allergenic pollen were noticeably higher than that of bacteria from low allergenic pollen, although the endotoxin concentration was much higher than those in low allergenic pollen. In addition, bacterial LPS concentrations in various pollen species positively correlated with the LPS concentration in their respective bacterial isolates.

Anti-inflammatory effects of Athyrium yokoscense extract via inhibition of the Erk1/2 and NF-κB pathways in bisphenol A-stimulated A549 cells

BPA-induced pulmonary inflammation has been investigated by many studies, but the impact of Athyrium yokoscense extract on this inflammatory response is uncertain. BPA-induced cytotoxic to A549 cells at 24 and 48 hrs after therapy, but AYE had a protective effect against BPA-induced cytotoxicity. BPA, which causes chronic lung disease, causes oxidative stress and inflammation in lung epithelial cell line, and this study found that AYE reduces BPA-induced cardiovascular stress and inflammatory response by down-regulating the Erk1/2 and NF-u03baB pathways.
