Comparative effectiveness of gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy on predicted 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease 5 years after surgery.

Objectives of the American Heart Association-predicted 10-year cardiovascular disease risk 5 years after surgery revealed the effectiveness of vertical sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures for cardiovascular disease reduction in the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association's predicted 10-year cardiovascular disease risk 5 years after surgery. Methods The ENGAGE CVD cohort consisted of 22,095 patients who underwent VSG or RYGB from 2009-2016. Patients remained with relatively low risk levels and there were no significant differences between VSG and RYGB at any time, even five years after surgery. Literature reveals major differences between VSG and RYGB in 10-year ASCVD risk, which may be due to residual confounding.

Nomogram for Predicting 5-Year Diabetes Remission After Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery in Chinese Patients with Obesity.

Purpose Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is widely used as an effective treatment for type 2 diabetes patients with obesity, but long-term diabetes remission rates have been less common. To date, there is no approved model to guide procedure selection based on long-term glucose monitoring in patients with T2D. According to the 2009 ADA guideline, DR criteria after bariatric surgery were established were outlined. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to find independent predictors of long-term DR, and these predictors were used to create a nomogram. Preoperative glycation hemoglobin and diabetes duration were discovered as independent risk factors that could be used for precise determination of long-term complete DR by using these two variables. We developed a nomogram using these two variables. The Hosmer-Lemeshow X2 value of nomogram was 3. 86, showing consistency between predicted and observed remission. After RYGB, our nomogram was a new and useful tool for accurate forecasts of long-term DR.

iStent inject Trabecular Micro-Bypass with or Without Cataract Surgery Yields Sustained 5-Year Glaucoma Control.

In patients with open-angle glaucoma, this review evaluated the 5-year effectiveness and safety of iStent inject ® trabecular micro-bypass with or without cataract surgery. Methods This prospective longitudinal case series featured serial iStent injection cases from a single surgeon at a large German academic hospital. Preoperative Mean IOP in the Overall cohort was 23. 5 1. 02 mean medications, down to 14. 1 1. 8 mg on 0. 77 0. 82 medications at 5 years, with 0. 72 0. 82 medications at 5 years. However, 46% were medication-free at 5 years compared to just one eye, but 46% were medication-free at 5 years. Mean IOP decreased by 39% and medications by 69% in Combined eyes, which combined eyes equated to reduced IOP by 39% and medications by 69%. Eyes at the final follow-up showed a 20 percent reduction in IOP reduction, and all but one eye had the same or lower IOP reduction versus preoperative; all eyes maintained or reduced their medication burden relative to preoperative.
