Synthesis of a fire-retardant and high T_g biobased polyester from 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid

A biobased diol is synthesized from vanillin, aiacol, and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxide to produce a series of fire-retardant polyesters by melt polymerization with ethylene glycol, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, and 2,5-furandolylic acid. The BDBE units contribute positively to the high glass transition temperature and fire retardancy, according to the study, while the CHDM moiety provides flexibility and chain propagation capabilities. PECBFs rises from 82 to 95 percent, while the limiting oxygen index increases from 22. 4 to 27. 5% as the number of BDBE rises from 82 to 25. When BDBE units are greater than 15% in the UL-94 combustion test, the samples almost self-extinguish immediately after the fire is smuish, as the samples are moved away.
