In our procedure, fructose is dehydrated to hydroxymethylfurfural at high returns making use of a Î ³-valerolactone/ H 2 O solvent system. HMF is ultimately oxidized to FDCA over a Pt/C driver with 93% yield. The benefit of our system is the greater solubility of FDCA in GVL/H 2 O, which permits oxidation at high concentrations using a heterogeneous stimulant that gets rid of the need for a homogeneous base. In enhancement, FDCA can be separated from the GVL/H 2 O solvent system by condensation to get > 99% pure FDCA.
